The Manager Product Design – Marvel Apparel, Accessories & Home – Owned & Operated is responsible for the day-to-day execution of product design and development of Marvel softlines categories (apparel, accessories & home) from concept through production for our vertical, flex business models and wholesale channels of distribution. You will collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure the highest quality, consumer focused, trend-right product lines that build brand equity and meet financial targets. This role will report to the Sr. Manager – Product Design.

Responsibilities:

  • Concept, design, & prototype (including managing art-to-product, sample creation, fit sessions, where applicable), deliver and present trend-right consumer centric product lines that feature market-leading innovation and great price/value for each tier of the value pyramid
  • Manage and develop direct report(s) through on-going feedback on performance and weekly touch bases to review deliverables
  • Lead direct reports to execute product design by ensuring high quality standards in character execution, in-depth storytelling, color, material, form and function while maximizing profitability
  • Spearhead packaging needs and approvals through online product approval system and collaborative cross functional meetings.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with studio & creative partners to ensure prompt product feedback and approvals
  • Understand global trends that translate into commercially viable product ideas
  • Lead design direction and trend execution for each season
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings, kick-off calls and brainstorms, share best practices with team members and broader organizations
  • Ability to shift priorities quickly to meet the needs of a constantly changing business
  • Monitor competitors, product innovation and market dynamics
  • Collaborate with internal partners (Creative Design, Brand Merchandising, Sourcing and Tech Design, BERGs, D&I teams, Cultural Consultants) and external partners (Studios & Disney Channel Content Providers, Games, Publishing, WDI, & Licensees to design and approve all products
  • Collaborate with the greater product design and creative teams to drive up-front trends, overall creative direction and identify future areas of growth within the franchise and across product categories, including the preparation of custom design tools and retail pitches to differentiate by category
  • Manage team to prepare creative and product design tools for internal leadership and cross divisional presentations
  • Manage and prioritize a variety of multiple design projects, running simultaneously with varying levels of complexity
  • Be an innovative thinker who embraces change and taking on new challenges

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience
  • Prior experience leading others
  • Strong knowledge in hardlines/softlines categories (raw materials, plastic, textiles, print, pattern, graphic composition, manufacturing)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Strong product design skills (e.g. 3D product design, technical design, sketching, creative application and manipulation of art, final mechanical art, fabric and trim identification)
  • Strong computer software skills (e.g. MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator)

Required Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field (e.g. industrial design, toy design, fashion design)
